The Low Bib Pinafore is a celebration of refined proportions and graceful utility. This design features a unique, cropped front bib that begins just below the bust, creating a high-waisted silhouette that beautifully elongates the body and creates a truly flattering line.

The standout feature of this piece is its versatile strap system. You can choose to sew the slender shoulder straps directly to the back for a clean, fixed look, or use the discreet Back Strap Loops to create an adjustable tie-back finish. Combined with an elasticated back for comfort, this pinafore strikes the perfect balance between a structured aesthetic and a romantic flowy feel.

Whether layered over a dainty blouse or a simple tank or tee, the Low Bib Pinafore is designed to help you feel simultaneously comfortable and polished.

KEY DESIGN FEATURES

Chic Cropped Bib: The shortened front bib starts right below the bust line, offering a modern and flattering take on the classic pinafore, highlighting the natural waist and creating an elongated silhouette.

Dual Strap Options: Choose between a Fixed Strap for a minimalist look or use the Back Strap Loops for an adjustable, romantic tie-back detail.

Elasticated Back: A soft elastic casing at the back waist ensures a comfortable “slip-on” fit that gently defines the shape while maintaining a relaxed aesthetic.

SUGGESTED FABRIC

Most woven fabrics will work beautifully for this pattern, as long as they aren’t too stretchy or difficult to handle when sewing the straps.

Linen or Washed Linen
Mid-weight Cotton or Denim
Double Gauze
Rayon or Tencel

NOTION

1. 1” (2.5cm) wide elastic
2. Lightweight interfacing for the front bib and pocket opening

The fabrics I used for my Low Bib Pinafores are
Perfume Flower Cotton Oxford
Serene Sand Washed Cotton in Espresso
Breezeway Linen in Verde

PREPARATION

Pre-wash and dry all your fabrics as this will prevent your garment from shrinking. We recommend you read the instructions thoroughly before sewing.

An afternoon sew

I had the pattern printed at a copy shop, highly recommend if available to you. I cut the pattern and fabric at lunch and had a pinafore by dinner! I used a striped linen fabric, very lightweight woven so opted to interface the front bib as well as the angled pocket liner. I would definitely recommend watching the YouTube tutorial before starting, then reading the pattern and checking your measurements before cutting anything. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned sewist my favorite thing about Sewing Therapy is the reminder of best practices for the best results — press when the pattern tells you, mark your notches, and don’t be in a rush :)
For sizing, I did choose to make size 24. My hip measurement is 50.5” and my waist is 42” - so I didn’t want to risk size 22 not being comfortable. I do not have a very large bust and I feel like the finished garment sits to the side as intended. Also as recommended in the pattern, I cut the back elastic to 20” and adjusted so the back piece felt a bit more snug around my waist. If I had to guess the final elastic size was probably 18” - it was nice to have the extra for insurance.
A big thank you to Sara for your hard work, for such an easy to follow pattern, that produces such a beautiful garment.
