The Hanoi Shorts and Pants reimagine the nostalgic skirt-over-pants silhouette through a contemporary lens resulting in a pattern that is as unique as it is comfortable. This pattern blends the fluid charm of a cropped skirt with relaxed-fit trousers or shorts, delivering a delightful and comfortable statement piece that transforms into an effortless yet distinctive outfit when paired with any simple top.

KEY DESIGN FEATURES

Versatile Lengths:

- Pants Version: An intentionally cropped cut that clears the ankle for a light, modern silhouette.

- Shorts Version: A mid-thigh length with wide leg openings that flatter the leg and mimic the look of two layered skirts.

Customizable Waist: A comfortable elastic waistband with an optional drawstring lets you cinch your perfect fit and add a graceful bow accent. 

Invisible Slant Pockets: Integrated seamlessly into the skirt overlay, these clever pockets feature a narrow and discreet opening for a clean, sleek look. 

 SUGGESTED FABRIC

Choosing the right fabric is key to bringing the Hanoi Shorts and Pants to life, as the interplay between the base trousers, overlay skirt, and slant pockets demands a balance of structure, weight, and movement. Since the layered construction naturally creates extra dimension around the waist and hips, selecting a smooth, low-maintenance fabric with high crease resistance ensures the skirt overlay stays polished and fluid rather than looking crushed after sitting down.

Personally, I think the pants look best in a more structured fabric, while an airier fabric works beautifully for the shorts.

Here are two distinct fabric approaches depending on the look you want to achieve:

1. Structured & Crisp Silhouette

If you prefer a clean-lined, modern look where the layered panels hold their shape effortlessly, choose stable, light-to-medium-weight fabrics that offer body without adding bulk or creasing easily.

2. Soft & Airy Drape

For a relaxed, breezy mood with gentle movement, choose lighter fabrics that flow easily and disguise or resist creasing.

PREPARATION

Pre-wash and dry all your fabrics as this will prevent your garment from shrinking. We recommend you read the instructions thoroughly before sewing.

PATTERN PRINTING (At Home (A4/Letter) / Copy Shop (A0) / Projector)

At Home (A4/Letter) :

To print at home, the pattern is divided into two separate files: you will need to print 28 pages for sizes XS–L, or 33 pages for sizes XL–3XL to get all the pattern pieces.

For your convenience, layer options for each size are included in the pattern. Please ensure that your printer settings are adjusted to a scale of 100% or set to ‘Actual Size’ for accurate printing.

A0 (Copy Shop) Option / Projector Option

We offer both A0 (Copy Shop) and Projector options. You can find the files in their respective folders. For your convenience, layer options for each size are included in the pattern. 

The A0 pattern file is located in the designated folder and supports copyshop printing with a 2 page layout. For your convenience, it includes layer options for each size.
