The Waist Collar – A Two-Way Statement Accessory

The Waist Collar is a versatile accessory that can be tied around the waist for a flattering A-line accent or worn over the shoulders as a detachable collar. Its sculptural shape and clean lines add instant character to both casual and elevated looks.

Cut on the bias for natural drape, it ties at the waist and flares gently away from the body, making it easy to style with dresses, skirts, or trousers. Depending on how it’s worn, it can create structure or offer soft movement.

Designed with sustainability in mind, it’s perfect for using remnant fabrics. Each version takes on a new personality depending on the material—linen, cotton, silk, or jacquard—making this a quick and rewarding project for creative styling.

SUGGESTED FABRIC

This pattern works beautifully with a wide range of light- to medium-weight woven fabrics. For more structure, try crisp cotton poplin, cotton twill, or light denim. For a softer, more fluid look, consider linen, double gauze, cotton lawn, or silk blends.

Textured or slightly heavier fabrics like jacquard, quilted cotton, or lightweight canvas can add volume and sculptural impact, while still maintaining ease of movement—especially when cut on the bias.

Feel free to experiment with your leftover fabrics—the Waist Collar is an ideal small project to give new life to remnant pieces.

PREPARATION

Pre-wash and dry all your fabrics as this will prevent your garment from shrinking. We recommend you read the instructions thoroughly before sewing.

When printing the pattern at home, we offer a 5-page layout.

For your convenience, layer options for each size are included in the pattern, allowing you to print your specific size only. Please ensure that your printer settings are adjusted to a scale of 100% or set to ‘Actual Size’ for accurate printing.

When printing, set the page orientation to Automatic or Landscape. The pattern is drafted in landscape format.

A0 (Copy Shop) Option / Projector Option

We offer both A0 (Copy Shop) and Projector options. You can find the files in their respective folders. For your convenience, layer options for each size are included in the pattern.
