The La Ciotat Skirt is a beginner-friendly wrap skirt designed with ease, charm, and a hint of picnic-day playfulness. Named after the breezy southern French town of La Ciotat (pronounced [la sjo’ta]), this skirt captures the lighthearted mood of coastal summers—it’s meant to feel light, breezy, and joyful to wear.
To make it accessible for newer sewists and more considerate of fabric usage, the main skirt panels are drafted as simple rectangles—minimizing waste while keeping the construction clean and approachable. But don’t let the simplicity fool you—La Ciotat is carefully shaped to flatter. A softly curved tummy panel gently covers the front, and a proportionally graded rise gives the skirt a comfortable and balanced fit across sizes.
The double-wrap ties let you secure the skirt at both the waist and the tummy panel edge, adding a sweet, adjustable detail that keeps things in place while giving a handmade touch. Whether you’re wearing it out for a picnic, a walk through the city, or just to feel a little extra cute at home, La Ciotat is a skirt that’s easy to love and fun to make.
SUGGESTED FABRIC
The La Ciotat Skirt works best with lightweight woven fabrics that offer soft drape and gentle structure. Because the skirt includes gathers and a flat tummy panel, using fabrics that are too heavy or stiff may create unwanted bulk around the waist and hips.
Recommended fabrics include:
Lightweight linen or washed linen for an airy yet crisp silhouette
Cotton lawn, voile, or poplin for breathable everyday comfort
Double gauze with its soft volume can create a charming look
Rayon, viscose, or tencel for a flowy and swishy version
Seersucker or light chambray for a slightly textured, picnic-ready feel
This skirt looks lovely in soft solids, classic stripes, gingham, or even small floral prints—especially those that evoke a breezy, resort-like feel.
PREPARATION
Pre-wash and dry all your fabrics as this will prevent your garment from shrinking. We recommend you read the instructions thoroughly before sewing.

When it comes to printing the pattern at home, we offer two versions. The first is a standard version that is 24 pages and includes all pattern pieces. The second option is 6 pages, saving you paper and ink.
For your convenience, layer options for each size are included in the pattern. Please ensure that your printer settings are adjusted to a scale of 100% or set to ‘Actual Size’ for accurate printing.
A0 (Copy Shop) Option / Projector Option
We offer both A0 (Copy Shop) and Projector options. You can find the files in their respective folders. For your convenience, layer options for each size are included in the pattern.

Sewed two new favourites in two evenings. Quick and easy sew. Easy to adjust and fit. Made the gathered part with less fabric than required for a more narrow shape. Also adjusted the lengt. Flattering shape. 10/10 would recommend ✨💕👍
The pattern is beginner friendly and the video on YouTube shows each step to get a wonderful result.
I love the pattern especially because the skirt hides the legs although it might be very windy. I never saw a decent wrap skirt like this one.
I made it out of a viscose-linen-mix and the first comment of my colleague when she saw me was: A beautiful skirt! (Without knowing that it's selfmade.)
And I added side pockets invisiblefrom the outside.
The La Ciotat Skirt is a simple pattern but elevated by nice design features such as the hip panels and double ties. I love that the skirt is entirely secured with the ties, and does not require making a button hole near the side seam like many wrap skirt patterns do. The Youtube tutorial is very useful. Overall I enjoyed sewing this a lot!
I loved making this skirt, it came out very nice. A small personal preference would be to have the complete/detailed instructions (especially the tips) in the pattern instructions themselves, as opposed to needing to rely on the video for some clarifications
